We are just over a week and a half into 2018. That means, for some, eleven days into a new diet, exercise regimen, acquiring some healthy habit or ditching an unhealthy one. For others, today means that you are coming up on two weeks of the Perfect Procrastination Plan of 2018.

Whether you are just laying the groundwork for a year of change, or you’re hesitating to get started, you probably already know that this thing, this growth, is a little harder than you’d expected. If we worked as hard at finding a way to do it as we do in finding excuses not to, we would all be in better shape, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

I can’t start my diet today. I haven’t had a chance to go to the grocery store...clean out my fridge...psychologically prepare for culinary torture.

I can’t exercise. I don’t have time...money...the cute leggings to go to the gym.

I want to spend more time reading my Bible, but this week I’ve just been too tired...busy...addicted to binge-watching Grey’s Anatomy.

With everything that goes on in our lives… work, family, friends, DRAMA… our attentions are pulled in a million directions. We have to purposefully fix our focus on our objective if we expect to be victorious in what we set out to accomplish. Every day.

Refocus on the goal.
Review the benefits.
Recount the cost.
Renew your commitment.
Resolve to see it through.
Rely on God to strengthen you.

If you have found yourself hesitating to begin, or losing your motivation to continue, review exactly what motivated your desire to change in the first place. Chances are, everything that factored into your decision to make shifts in your habits, is still valid. So, don’t let yourself off the hook. Don’t back out now! With God on our side, the only way to fail is to quit.

You can make excuses, or you can make it happen. It's up to you.
