“For we are God’s handiwork,
created in Christ Jesus to do good works,
which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10

Change is hard. I know… file that under “ D” for Duh. How do we get from point A to point B? When you enter a destination into the GPS, the system marks out a path for you based on more than simply the destination. The GPS needs two coordinates in order to get us where we want to go. Not only do we need the endpoint, but the GPS has to have a starting point in order to map out our course. It’s not enough to know who we want to become. We need to begin with an accurate determination of who we are.

One reason people fail is that their plan is out of alignment with their internal view of themselves. Ask God to expose the lies you’ve believed about yourself. You are not useless or hopeless or weak. You cannot become someone you cannot envision yourself being. So, according to your Creator, who are you, really? We focus our attention on what we are trying to alter and we strive to achieve it. What we fail to realize is that why we’re transforming is as important as what we’re changing.

Another enemy of change is found in the “why.” Once we see who we are, our driving force shifts. Our internal motivation becomes less about materialistic, selfish gain and more about eternal Kingdom objectives. When we let the main thing be the main thing, our own transformation builds on that. Change becomes lasting when we’re motivated by internal and not external forces. What’s your impetus? What is your “why?”

Seek God’s Word and find out who He says you are in Him, surrender to His purpose, and lean in for the transformation.
